Strange Welcoming

Abandoned estate grounds

Gemma seems to have become distracted by both Mon'Fargret and Mey'Luskar, but at the sound of Granite Spear's talk box she snaps out of it.

"Um, right!" she says, shaking her head. "This way!"

"Aw, flamin' bro," moans the guy on the sofa. "I can't move my hands, bro!"

"Hands are overrated," retorts the guy by the light flatly.

Gemma leads the party back down the short hallway and out the door into the night. The rain seems to have stopped, but the glow of the city reflecting off the clouds shows they are still low and ugly. There is just enough light to see the road and the shadowy silhouettes of the trees. As the party moves along southward, Pru asks a question about the layout of the place, and Gemma (who apologizes for her poor Yangae and sticks to speaking Her-galad) explains that the road they are on follows a circle going around the plantation complex, with the house as its hub. If they were to continue around, they would come to the old chapel and its garden, which Gemma says (with clear pride) she has been tending. On the opposite side of the circle are a bunch of large greenhouses. The old warehouse (which Gemma doesn't seem to like) is on the northeastern edge.

The party comes to a T-intersection, where a road curves off to head through the trees toward the inside of the circle. Gemma turns onto it, explaining that the inner woods were the nut groves of the plantation, but they've gone a bit wild. Soon the party passes through the wall of trees, and the ominous, black bulk of the house can be seen standing on a low hill in the middle of the complex. Its shape seems squarish, but it has obviously Hergoth-style towers.

A dim, flickering light can be seen on the top floor of the central tower.

"This isn't good," says Bina. "We're not welcome here!"

"Of course you're not!" replies Gemma. "They think those Eye people or whatever are attacking! But it's okay! They know..."

"I don't like it either," says Betham. "Are you sure about this?"

"Am I sure?" rails Gemma. "Of course! I mean, they're kind of suspicious, but they're alright once you get to know them. Remember, these are my people!" She increases her pace, giggling and mumbling to herself.

(I need ALT checks from everybody.)

Rolls... a 2! 16-2=14. [Its been so long since we've had to roll any dice I had to dig around to find them again.]

Anonymous said...

Rolls a 10. (14-10) = 4. M'F is a lert.

ElTigrez said...

rolls a "17" Ham goes "What?" glassy eyed ...."did someone say something about monkeys flying out of where?"

Phillipa Scratch said...

I rolled a "2" so 13-2=11.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Okay...I'm still waiting for a couple of people, but I don't think it'll affect the outcome too much.)

Those of you who got positive ALT pts. see a thin line of reddish light appear in the mist leading from just above the front of the house directly to Gemma.

Right now the party has just come onto the inner circle road, i.e. out in the open about twenty meters from either the house or the old orchard.

Without hesitation, Bina throws herself at Mey'Luskar.

Zeton and Widjgleeby are both able to take action.

(I'll pause here to give the last two members a chance to post their ALT results.)

DewKid said...

Figures, I rolled a 20... That's a -7 with my ALT. Hopefully Info Geek's roll will offset mine a bit...

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Granite Spear smells water. Nice, cool, refreshing wa...)

Zeton, who had apparently increased his pace to catch up to Gemma, immediately dives into her.

(Is Widjgleeby going to do anything?)

DewKid said...

[Actually, Granite's been in a daze ever since arriving at this stinkin' plantation. What the hell kind of drugs were they growing here anyway! Must be a flower in bloom that has a narcotic effect on Shurians...]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Actually, that's more accurate than you think. Granite Spear has noticed a strange, intoxicating smell since entering the compound. It smells kind of like the hint of spice characteristic of targo tea, only more intense.)

Phillipa Scratch said...

Widgleeby is going to take her customary place between Mey Luskar and the house and move with her as she goes for cover.

The Moody Minstrel said...

PTHOO!

Something whizzes past Zeton's ear and ricochets off the pavement between Mon'Fargret and Dabid.

(Widjgleeby can still take another action, if you like.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Betham quickly snaps his pistol out.

Everybody feels a weird sensation coming from Bina, as if her very presence suddenly becomes more intense. (If anybody looks at her, her eyes are glowing red.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

(It's Zeton's turn to do something.)

Anonymous said...

Zeton quickly ask Gemma, "Can you help stop this?"

The Moody Minstrel said...

Betham lets off a controlled burst with his stun pistol. As he does so, there is a flash and a loud report from almost the same area of the house as the first attack. (No one is hit.)

A muffled cry can be heard. It does NOT sound human.

Cursing in Brekka, Lirassa draws her pistol and crouches.

Bina stands and turns toward the house, her hands showing a reddish aura.

Widjgleeby moves out of Bina's way but stays close to Mey'Luskar.

Both Nekshi and Mon'Fargret are up for an action.

Seymour said...

Nekshi scurries for cover and hopes her health insurance has been paid.

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret snaps his pistol out. He shoots at the place where the shot came at them.

Anonymous said...

Them being him and Dabid.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Nekshi is currently about halfway between the orchard and the house. I'll assume she's headed for the orchard.)

(As for Mon'Fargret, he only has enough speed points to draw his pistol, so that's as far as he gets at the moment. I'll continue his action as you said it if nothing changes.)

Gemma's reply to Zeton is to whine something about "Dubul" and her eyes.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Okay, to speed things up I went ahead and rolled speed points for everyone.)

Okay, Mon'Fargret goes first, so he can take his snapshot now. First I need to ask: single pulse or rock n' roll? If the latter, short or long burst?

Anonymous said...

Single pulse mode...he doesn't need any exploding walls.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(You have enough points for up to three shots right now. [I took the liberty of rolling for your swift attack skill while I was at it.] Only the first will be considered a snap-shot unless you change targets. Roll for each shot you take. Don't worry about modifiers; I'll take care of the math.)

Anonymous said...

8,1,4 on the three d20 rolls. Wish I could do that all the time.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Just for the record, those of you using night-vision visors definitely saw the laser designator, and when the second, noisier weapon fired, the weapon itself had a clear thermal signature. However, there is little or no trace of the shooters, meaning they're either mechanical or cold-blooded.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

*POP* (Kind of like an electronic camera flash, only thousands of times more powerful.)

Mon'Fargret's first shot, a snap-shot pointed at the source of the laser designator seen earlier, apparently hits the rail of a veranda over the house's front porch. In the resulting flash and shower of sparks, a silhouette can clearly be seen trying to rise into firing position.

Mon'Fargret immediately adjusts his aim and shoots again.

*POP*

There is another burst of flame and sparks, this time of a very different color, right in the middle of the shooter's face.

Mon'Fargret pulls the trigger a third time in quick succession just as Betham opens up again with his stun pistol.

Another burst of flame erupts from the side of the shooter's head. Meanwhile, in the play of sparks from the volley of stun bolts, it's hard to tell for sure, but it looks like there's a second, larger figure up there. There's also another inhuman cry like before.

Holding her fire at the last instant, Lirassa instead jumps up to run in the direction of the house.

Bina can be heard to grunt with effort as her hands and eyes glow more brightly.

Zeton and Ham are both able to take action now, if desired.

Anonymous said...

As Lirassa jumps up Zeton shouts, "Someone named Dubul... be careful!" [I know Zeton doesn't have enough action points, so please carry this over for the next opportunity to act]: Zeton then turns his attention to Gemma to make sure she is not hurt, paying close attention to her eyes.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Actually, Zeton has more than enough points to say that.)

Seymour said...

Since we're all kind of experiencing this blinding barrage, can we check to see if we can recognize the silhouette of this menace or perhaps the source/race/astrological sign of the screamer?

Nekshi would also like to suggest something over the comm-link when she has the points.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Well, right now Nekshi is making a mad dash back to the orchard and is therefore facing away from the action, but I'll let you know.)

Phillipa Scratch said...

What about me? Do I smell anything beyond cooking drugs? Am I heading towards the orchard too? Which way is Mey?

Why does it always make me enter my password to comment twice?

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Mey'Luskar hasn't really moved since Bina tackled her. Only about 6 seconds have elapsed since then, and she's still lying there on the pavement looking a bit stunned. I assumed that Widjgleeby moved to cover her when Bina stepped forward and started summoning her power. Since Widjgleeby never took any other actions during the last exchange and had plenty of speed points, I'll let you make an ALT roll or two for her to see if she saw/heard/smelled something that the others didn't.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Still waiting for Ham's action...)

ElTigrez said...

Ham takes the opportunity to recover from his dazed alertness roll to sink down behind cover, and aim through the sights at the targets that have been so nicely illuminated by previous weapons fire. The selector switch is advanced to long burst.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(There is no cover to sink behind since the party is out in the open, but I'll assume Ham drops to a crouch as he fires.)

Ham's carbine spits out a volley of stun bolts. There's a spectacular light show on the veranda, but it's hard to tell what's going on.

Mon'Fargret is up for an action.

Granite Spear, having finally snapped out of her stupor, is up for an action.

Phillipa Scratch said...

O.K. two ALT rolls the first one was 13-20=-7 and the second was 13-5=8.

(all my other dice added up to 34)

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret will keep pulsing...not sure how many I get, but here are 3 d20 rolls (in order of rolling)... 1, 19, 7.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Okay...one at a time...)
(I'm going to assume M'F is still shooting at the same target since you haven't indicated otherwise.)

*POP*

Another burst erupts in the middle of the face of the first shooter, who is clearly in the process of collapsing.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Betham rakes the veranda with fire from his pistol again, this time holding down the trigger.

As his target crumples, Mon'Fargret's second shot hits the veranda railing. Meanwhile, as Betham's pistol continues spitting out stun bolts, there is another bestial wail.

(Still waiting for Granite Spear's action.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Pru starts to run ahead to follow Lirassa, taking an oblique course to avoid the shooters.

Meanwhile, everyone in the party hears (or, in Granite Spear's case, feels) a low, sharp buzzing followed by a dull thud in Lirassa's vicinity.

Lirassa lets out a yelp.

Nekshi is up for an action.

Seymour said...

Assuming she's reached decent cover, Nekshi will whistle for Granite to follow her.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Well, so far Nekshi has managed to cover about one-third of the distance to the orchard and is still out in the open...and remembering just how poor Zorlan night vision is.

I'll assume she whistles for Granite Spear to follow anyway.

Mr. Warren, we're still waiting for you to take your turn! Is Granite Spear going to follow Nekshi or do something else?

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Anyway, while we're waiting for Mr. Warren...)

(Ham is also able to take action now, if desired. So is Widjgleeby.)

(Is Mon'Fargret going to take that third shot, forfeit it to change aim to the second target, or snap-shoot at the second target?)

Zeton looks closely at Gemma, who sits up and moves a lock of hair away from her face. "Not my eyes," she says with a shy grin, "Dubul's eyes!"

With a shout more of annoyance than pain, Lirassa stumbles and rolls.

"Oh, shit!" says Pru, quickly coming to a halt and looking around.

Dabid freezes.

"I HATE this!" moans Mey'Luskar.

Bina heaves a raspy, wavering sigh of relief as the red aura around her hands suddenly becomes more pronounced...just as the lights on the underside of the veranda roof start to glow brightly, showing everything clearly.

The first shooter, who is visibly smoking (mainly from the cranial region), can be seen to collapse.

"There!" cries Betham, walking his fire into the now clearly-visible second shooter on the veranda.

Nekshi continues running toward the orchard and is now about halfway there.

Anonymous said...

M'F = snapshot at 2nd target...let me know if I need to roll for him.

Phillipa Scratch said...

Widjy will continue to play Farbett shield and growl threateningly.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I'll go with that third roll you made for M'F, since it hasn't been used yet.)

Mon'Fargret's shot just misses, hitting a pillar that the target seems to be leaning on. The latter is showered with sparks, but shows no reaction.

DewKid said...

[Sorry - I've been busy preparing a huge presentation for work. It's occupied most of my free time.]

Granite grunts at Nekshi's departure, but decides to stay put and see if she can get the new gun into play with some covering fire. She'll turn the gun towards the veranda at takes a quick shot at the second shooter.

Seymour said...

Well, I can't say I blame Granite a little target practice. Besides, I'm interested in seeing what this thing does.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Granite Spear actually has points to spare since she hasn't done anything at all this exchange and gets a bonus if she attacks.)

Roll a d20 for the shot. I'll do the math.

ElTigrez said...

Ham calmly realigns the Carbine's sites on the second shooter. Depresses the trigger with another long burst, walking the barrage up the body. (rolls a "3" with 18?-3=15)

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I'll have to assume it's a snap-shoot since Ham doesn't have enough points left for both a careful aim and a shot this exchange. Your roll is still sufficient to hit.)

DewKid said...

[Rolled a 12]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Okay...since you said "quick shot", I'll treat it as a snap-shot.)

The pistol is both bulky and heavy, a bit awkward for Granite Spear. She has to use both tentacles to balance it properly.

There is a flash and a loud crack like a nearby lightning strike. A trail of plasma lingers briefly where the pulse has torn its way through the mist. There is a brilliant flash and small explosion right where the veranda railing meets the platform.

(Granite Spear still has speed points left. Is she going to shoot again?)

DewKid said...

[Definitely, especially now that I have a real d20, and not a computer generated one... DAMN, rolled a 16 this time. Guess that gun's still a bit awkward for Granite. Anyway, she's just trying to create some noise and violence to distract the enemy a bit.]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(The second shot is no longer a snap-shot, so the chance to hit is much higher. 16 is still a miss, though.)

Granite's second shot blasts another chunk off of the veranda rail a little bit higher and to the right of the first one.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Okay, we're at the end of the round. Both of the shooters on the veranda have collapsed. Lirassa is down.

Nekshi enters the orchard on the south side of the circle road and, being more or less totally blind, proceeds to skin and bruise herself silly.

The party only saw the second shooter for about a second after Bina lit up the veranda. I'll tell each of you separately what you saw, if anything.

The action isn't completely resolved yet (I'll explain soon), but there are currently no obvious opponents. Stand by...

The Moody Minstrel said...

Lirassa sits up and catches her breath.

"She's hurt!" says Gemma.

Betham spins to face north, pistol leveled, and looks around intently.

(I need to know what Zeton, Nekshi, and Mon'Fargret are going to do next.)

Anonymous said...

"I'll help her."

Zeton makes sure he has his med kit and then quickly, (not quite a run - see explanation below), and safely as he can, goes to Lirassa. Zeton is concerned Lirassa may have stumbled upon a mine field, so will try and follow her path if at all possible. When Zeton is able, he'll ask Lirassa, "what happened?" and provide medical assistance.

Seymour said...

Since she can't see worth a Zark, Nekshi will crouch down near a tree; trying to conceal IR waves through the angling her body to conform to the natural variation of vegetational growth patterns (Vg)as a function of non-reflective IR absorbing celluloid barriers (C).

ie, she'll hug a tree and listen intently.

DewKid said...

Granite immediately starts looking for Nekshi. If she can be located, Granite will move cautiously to her position.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Checking his med kit, Zeton starts to move forward. Mon'Fargret falls in behind him, pistol still at the ready.

Down in the orchard, Nekshi hunkers down behind a tree, doing her best to conform to the tree's shape. Granite Spear starts to head down to join her.

Once again there is a sudden, sharp buzzing sound followed by a plop or splat.

Pru cries out and grabs her arm.

The Moody Minstrel said...

The red glow fading from her eyes, Bina starts to dash forward toward Pru.

(Is Widjgleeby going to do anything?)

Still seated, Lirassa starts to fumble around in her bag.

(Mon'Fargret and Ham can take an action now.)

(Is Zeton going to continue toward Lirassa or turn toward Pru instead?)

Anonymous said...

Zeton continues toward Lirassa.

Phillipa Scratch said...

I'm going to head for the right side of the road, towards the trees.

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret will set his pistol to sustained beam and will walk in the strafe at 1m height from about 5m in front of the house entrance to the entrance itself assuming he has clears Jenna's position following Zeton. [Sorry for the delay...too many balls in the air]

Anonymous said...

cleared

The Moody Minstrel said...

(No problem. I hear you.)
(Okay...one step at a time...)

Widjgleeby starts moving in the same direction Nekshi went but covers ground a lot quicker.

Mon'Fargret resets his pistol's firing mode.

Zeton closes the gap to Lirassa's position and slows to come alongside saying, "What happened?"

"Wait!" cries Gemma, starting off after Zeton (but doesn't block M'F's line of sight).

Ham turns to face the same direction as Betham and starts looking around.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Moving right along...)

Having located Nekshi, Granite Spear starts to hobble toward her. Nekshi scowls at the Shurian's slowness and gives another, rather edgier whistle.

Mon'Fargret hesitates to make sure Gemma is out of the way, and then he opens up with a blind strafe in front of what appears to be the main entrance of the house. Flashes can be seen in the distance where trees in the opposite orchard are ignited.

Widjgleeby arrives at the edge of the orchard, but she doesn't let that slow her down too much.

Arriving at Pru's position, Bina says anxiously, "Let me see it!"

Pru grunts, holding her arm, and retorts, "You're not going to use witch power, are you?"

All at once, Betham lets out both a shout and a long burst from his pistol right past Pru and into the trees to the north.

"Hey, don't leave me here!" cries Mey'Luskar.

Lirassa continues to fiddle around with something in her bag (and clicking and snapping can be heard), but she says to Zeton indifferently, "It went right through my leg armor."

In the glow from the veranda (helped by his visor), Zeton can see that a hole has been punched clean through the armor in Lirassa's left calf area. Whatever it was was a physical object rather than energy. There is some blood.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Still moving along...)

Betham utters a Her-galad swear word and holds his fire.

Looking toward where Betham was shooting, just for an instant, a little over sixty meters away nestled in the trees, Ham catches a glimpse of what is clearly a Yangae-sized humanoid holding a rifle as a sparkling stun bolt plays about its form. Then the figure seems to distort and vanish just as it turns to run.

Granite Spear feels a sudden, sharp prickly sensation on one of her legs, but the feeling stops as soon as it has begun.

Catching up to Zeton, Gemma nods toward Lirassa and says, "Why isn't she feeling the pain?"

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Okay, we're starting a new exchange.)

Lirassa pulls the last two big parts out of her bag and finishes assembling a bloated monster of a rifle.

(Now that Granite Spear is at the edge of the orchard, and having felt that odd tingling on her leg, is she going to take any action?)

(Is Nekshi going to stay where she is, or say/do something?)

(Is Mon'Fargret going to continue strafing in front of the house, or will he do something different?)

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret will cease fire and move his aim to the north. What he will do next depends on what info he caught out of the corner of his eye.

DewKid said...

Granite is going to take cover as quickly as possible. If she has time, she will fire the gun towards the shooters in the Veranda once more.

[Note that cover is more important here, so if there isn't time to take a shot, I'd rather expend the effort getting a good hiding place, such as it is.]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Oh, there's time, alright! He he he...PLENTY of time!!! sss-sss-sss!)

Anyway...

(I may have to update the picture...if I can find the time to work on it...)

Pistol still leveled, Mon'Fargret quickly pivots around and faces north. He doesn't see what Betham was shooting at, however.

As she moves into the edge of the orchard, Granite Spear suddenly whips around, levels the pistol, and fires off another blast at the veranda. Both of the shooters have already collapsed to the floor and are no longer in view, but the shot takes a healthy chunk out of the nearest pillar.

(Is Nekshi going to respond to Granite Spear's action in any way?)

"Hey!" calls Mey'Luskar. "Isn't that a door over there?"

Betham continues to scope around, pistol leveled.

Dabid clicks his tongue and starts moving toward Mon'Fargret's position.

Seymour said...

I assume Nekshi is unaware of Granite's leg "injury" or what or who Betham or Ham saw.

She'll get on the radio to the party.

"That's two down on the veranda. Report threats, direction and distance."

She'll begin working on a quick vocal directional program to relay radio messages to a threat level and targeting priority display for the party's wrist-comms.

This might take a couple of seconds.

DewKid said...

[Does Granite have time to talk to Nekshi?]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Granite Spear is still at the tail end of her movement/firing action. She will have time to talk to Nekshi when her turn comes up next, but only if she interrupts Nekshi's current, ongoing statement.)

(Ham can take an action now if he likes.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Wincing at the blast from Granite Spear's shot, Gemma says in reply to Mey'Luskar, "Of course there's a door!" She turns and heads for the house again.

Zeton tries to have a look at Lirassa's leg and narrowly misses getting getting hit in the face with her behemoth of a rifle when she raises it into position and switches on its scope.

Betham, Mon'Fargret, and Dabid continue to scan around but see nothing in the darkened orchards.

"Let me help you!" says Bina firmly to Pru.

Pru sighs and holds up her arm, which is bleeding rather heavily.

(What is Granite Spear going to say to Nekshi?)

Anonymous said...

"Everyone but the hurt and medics to the door," says Mon'Fargret somewhat forcefully.

"Betham and I will cover you. Let's move."

The Moody Minstrel said...

As Mon'Fargret is saying this, Granite Spear starts saying something to Nekshi in Zorlan.

Ham urges Lirassa to follow Gemma. With an impatient sigh, the Besteeng rises to her feet.

"Come on, you guys!" calls Mey'Luskar to the group hiding in the trees as she dashes forward. "Don't wait for the tree to grow!"

Dabid tries to cower down in the weedy flowerbed and continues to gaze north seeking the shooter.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(New exchange)

Gemma is heading toward one of the corner towers of the house. Those with exceptional night vision or vision enhancement devices can see that there is a door that is partly sunken, i.e. there is a small staircase leading down to it.

I need to know what Granite Spear, Zeton, and Mon'Fargret are going to do now.

Phillipa Scratch said...

When you want to know what Widjy is going to do. Widjy is going to head towards the door, swearing under her breath.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Everyone note updated pic at the bottom of the post. Widjgleeby [who had plenty of points left over last exchange] has started moving out of the trees toward the house.)

Anonymous said...

Zeton will try to make sure Lirassa is taken care of before we move toward the house. (Stop the flow of blood, bandage the wound, etc.) If she resists, he will not press the matter, but give her a very stern look.

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret will get clear of Bina and figure the shooters would have retreated either farther away or towards the cover of the building and will sustain a couple second burst from the shooter's location right to the corner of the house. He will regret the combustion of a few more trees.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Mon'Fargret opens up with a sustained volley strafing the area indicated above. Betham does the same.

Pru drops to the ground saying, "Whatever you're doing, do it quick!"

Dabid leaps off to follow Gemma.

Instead of heading toward the house, Lirassa stays put and raises her massive rifle, ignoring Zeton completely as he moves in to look at her leg.

(I assume that Nekshi is still working on her program. What is Granite Spear going to do?)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Bina kneels next to Pru, closes her eyes, and starts chanting.

(Mon'Fargret sees in his visor what appears to be a small flash of flame in mid air and, for the briefest instant, a humanoid silhouette. Apparently the target hadn't really moved as far from its original position as its briefly visible dash would've suggested. Is M'F going to concentrate his area fire there or switch to direct shooting?)

Once again there is a thin crack and a strange buzzing or zipping sound. Gemma cries out both vocally and psychically as her gait falters.

Mey'Luskar immediately stops her forward dash.

Still ignoring Zeton, Lirassa starts probing around for the target looking at her rifle's monitor.

Anonymous said...

Zeton will immediately stop trying to help Lirassa so he doesn't interfere with her sniping and turn his attention to Gemma. (With his medical gear quickly at hand.) He will run to her as quickly as he can, but in the following fashion:

As Zeton starts his run he will say to himself, "I'm up, he sees me, I'm down." Upon saying "I'm down", Zeton will fall to the ground, roll to the left or right, (Zeton will try to be as unpredictable as possible) and then start all over again. When Zeton says, "I'm up", he'll get up, (making himself as low a target as possible while still running), run toward Gemma and when he says, "I'm down", he'll hit the deck again. Rinse and repeat as long as necessary to reach Gemma.

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret will walk it in to the target.

DewKid said...

Granite is going to try and encourage Nekshi to release the tree, and move with her towards the house as quickly as possible.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Gonna have to do some Gamemaster overriding here and there...)

Widjgleeby overtakes Gemma and quickly slows her dash to the house.

Nekshi is still firmly locked in the world of her programming, but she offers no resistance as Granite Spear gently pries her out and moves her along.

Zeton only has about four meters to cover to get to Gemma, who is now standing there (clearly favoring one leg) wailing. He can cover it with only one dive.

Ham calls to Lirassa, asking her if she sees anything.

Mon'Fargret immediately changes his strafing action, reversing it back to a clear point.

"Did you see them?" asks Betham.

As Bina continues to chant, points of light can be seen on her forehead, throat, and chest. Each is a different color.

Dabid suddenly changes direction, heading toward the tower on the northwestern corner.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Gemma screams, "My leg!! My leg!!"

Lirassa curses in Brekka as she continues to sweep around with her rifle's scope.

Granite Spear continues to tug Nekshi along as fast as she can. Nekshi continues to peck away at her computer, muttering to herself.

Pru stares at Bina wide-eyed and utters a low moan of fear but doesn't move.

Mey'Luskar glances around with indecision.

Widjgleeby comes to a stop in front of the stairway leading down to the door. It is clearly designed with Farbetts in mind.

Mon'Fargret's fire comes to an abrupt halt just as an LED on his pistol starts blinking and a feminine voice says, "Power pack is empty. Please replace or recharge."

Gritting his teeth, Betham lets off a volley at the spot Mon'Fargret seemed to be aiming for. The stun bursts hit the trees.

"Bina!" shouts Mey'Luskar, and she hustles toward the entranced Hergoth.

Dabid continues running right past the NW tower and curves to head around the back of the house.

(Zeton, Ham, Granite Spear [check your e-mail, Dewkid!], Mon'Fargret, and Widjgleeby are all entitled to take one last action this exchange. What are you going to do?)

Anonymous said...

Once Zeton is next to Gemma he will pull her down to the ground. Zeton will speak in calming tones to reassure Gemma she'll be fine as he begins to administer first aid to her injured leg. If at all possible, he'll position himself between where the sniper fire is coming from and Gemma to act as some sort of barrier.

Granite Spear's snap-shot cleaves its way through the air. There follows the now-familiar blue-white fireball of a baffled-atom burst, but of a very unique shape. The humanoid silhouette that immediately becomes visible behind and around it suggests that the figure was slightly raised from a prone position to fire...and was caught square in the chest. A muffled cry is only just audible over the roar as tortured nuclei emit their thermal scream of agony into the surrounding matter. The figure is thrown bodily into the air as flames explode around its torso and shoulders, scattering cinders like a pyrotechnic burst.

Lirassa lowers her rifle.

Granite nods in approval, and scratches a notch in the gun.

"Okay, let's get a wall between us and the incoming. Unless we have criticals, we can tend the wounded when we get to the wall by the door."

"I think that was the last one," retorts Betham, but he complies anyway.

The three points of light visible on Bina quickly expand and become a reddish aura centered on her head and upper body. As her chant continues, the aura seems to move down her arms and collect in her hands, which then begin to glow red.

Suddenly opening her eyes wide, she reaches out and touches Pru's injured arm. Pru gasps and involuntarily jerks away, but the red glow seems to flow into the afflicted limb. Then Pru utters a weird cry, shakes her arm, and then looks at it in amazement.

"Not even a scar," she says in a low, breathy voice.

Bina stops chanting and takes a deep breath as the aura fades. "The Entity was merciful," she says.

[BTW, Seymour's parents are in town visiting, so I expect that's the main reason for his absence here.]

Granite will tug at Nekshi again, and get her moving towards the wall by the door. She'll move as cautiously as possible with a Zorlan under one arm... err... tentacle.
