There is a flurry of quiet activity in the room.
Ham Sahladt is reconfiguring himself in anticipation.
Mon'Fargret is thoughtfully eying the woman outside through the narrow opening in the door while readying his gear.
Lirassa is crouching, tensed as if to spring, behind the chair, the reconfigured hot comb (which no longer looks like a hot comb) clutched in her hand and a very intense look on her face.
Dabid is standing near the media terminal actively wishing he were somewhere else.
Widjgleeby, smelling all the tension in the air, turns her attention toward the room but keeps her bec-de-spoon raised.
Mey'Luskar is trembling, but her fears seem to be about evenly divided between the Farbett and the person at the door.
Nekshi takes a step backward from the door, still looking puzzled.
Zeton moves quietly toward her, intent on moving her still further from the door.
Heaven only knows what Granite Spear is doing.
Mira (if that is her real name), can be heard to chortle. Then she says, "Alright, then. Fools."

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 290 of 290Interesting note, Phillipa. I had no idea there was a *(&&#*%&#^%&(*#@ IN the apartment building, but I'm in complete agreement that you should get it out of there. You never know what might happen if you left a *(&&#*%&#^%&(*#@ unattended. Why, you might even end up with a %#$^@#$@#*$?^^$ or a @#(&!((@(#**$ if left alone TOO @!#$% long!!
[I believe Moody has already scolded me ONCE this week for being such smart ass... I guess I don't learn my lessons very well.]
Whoa, who knew that the comments rolled over at 200!! Sweeeeet. Guess its time for a new post! ;-P
[Can I assume that Widjgleeby is standing in front of the back door right now?]
Mira attempts to quick-draw something, bricks it, and tries to fumble it out of its place normally. She does not get it out in time.
She does succeed in blocking one of the claw attacks with her off hand, however.
Granite Spear's beak lands on her good arm just below the shoulder. (Roll damage)
The other claw attack catches her in a rather bad place...just below her protective vest. (Roll damage)
Damage:
Beak: 2 + 2 + (0.5)*5 = 7
Claw: 4 + (0.5)3 = 6
Dang - must be the close quarters!!
*CRUNCH*
...r-r-r-r-rip!!!
Granite Spear's beak is unable to penetrate her target's coat, which is apparently reinforced with K-fiber. Even so, she is able to bite down on the flexible material...and it's gotta hurt!
The claw swipe is far more successful. Landing just below belly button level (and, more importantly, below the target's coat), it comes away with a big chunk of the target's trousers...with flesh attached.
Lirassa continues circling around the garden and increases her speed.
Ham continues to slow as he weaves through the garden. (Eltigrez, you're up for an action or movement option. You're halfway to the path that bisects the middle of the garden parallel to the street. Are you going to do anything?)
(I should also mention that Ham thinks he sees a hint of movement from behind the rear end of the van.)
Mon'Fargret, Zeton, and Nekshi are all up for a movement option or action this impulse. Are any of you going to do anything?
Once Zeton reaches his computer, he will use it to monitor the police communications to determine how long before they arrive.
When Zeton calls up the interface, he sees the alert bulletin. About seven minutes ago (not long before Mira showed up at the door) there was a large explosion and reports of gunfire in the north tip of Ekr'im near the airport. The explosion was in a garage for service vehicles.
Emergency and Peace Forcer units are on the scene and others are still arriving.
MmmmmmmMMMMEAAATTT!
I will continue in the straightest line possible to the van. I will also flash a "danger/hostile" sign to Lirassa as I go...provided she sees it.
[Someone just lost some weight]
Do I hear a scream by chance?
Yes, she is by back door, protecting butts. . .backs. She wonders why people who live in fancy sky-high building don't have more portable computers! We need go!
Impatient and frustrated by her inability to act effectively, Widjgleeby shows all her teeth and hisses.
M'F tries to get a better view of the scene with a quick sideward glance at the gawkers to see if that is all they are.
Either in this impulse or next, he says to Mey over his shoulder, "Dabid! Mey! Help Zeton. We need to get out of here."
All the while, his gun is drawn and ready for hostile activity.
Make an alertness check, Snabulus. (ALT[14] - d20).
(Oh, and that statement will pretty much occupy you for the rest of the exchange.)
I rolled a 20, so it is a -6. I guess my eyeballs spontaneously popped out of my head and are swinging back and forth by the optic nerves.
Nekshi will move up alongside (behind) Widj and try to figure out why she's hissing and acting upset. (As if getting shot at isn't enough of an excuse.)
O.K. If they are going out the front door then at the first opportunity, Widjy is going out the back door and down the Farbett ladder. If anyone wants to go too they are welcome to ride piggy back.
Now THAT I want to see. A Fasion riding a Farbett! I'd pay good money for THAT rodeo!
Grrrrrr, I'm a Zorlan, not a Fasion! And don't eat any corpses, we'll need them for evidence.
Yeah and leave some meat for the Farbett. You have to share.
Ooops - I MEANT Zorlan.... (how embarassing)
Hoping to get a look at the gawkers, Mon'Fargret glances over at the other tower. Just at that moment a big, fat darkiz beetle, likely attracted by the nearby lamp, tries to land on his face.
Swatting the noisome bug away, he calls over his shoulder for Dabid and/or Mey'Luskar to get ready to head out.
(Okay, Nekshi, looking up from your computer and moving to Widj's position will take a few impulses.)
Hang on a sec! No one has gone out any doors yet! Everybody stand by so we don't wind up with unsynchronized time frames again...
Impulse Two
Ham reaches the path bisecting the garden plot just a couple of meters from the road. (I assume he shifts course just slightly to follow the path out - it would be faster.) He then emerges onto the pavement just a couple of meters behind Lirassa, though she's now moving at a faster pace.
Last impulse Nekshi turned to move toward Widjgleeby. Now she's actually moving.
Mon'Fargret is yelling something in Yangae to Dabid and Mey'Luskar about helping Zeton and getting ready to move out. (It's what Snabulus said in his prior comment.) Most of the people in the apartment hear and understand it. (Yes, Farbetts are people too!)
Granite Spear, your turn. (You have enough points for both a movement option and an action or two separate actions. [But keep in mind that "two separate actions" and "two simultaneous actions" are not the same thing! Simultaneous actions are treated as a single action].)
[I imagine there's not a lot of space to move around inside the van...?]
Assuming there is no further equipment in the way, Granite will attempt to pin Mira to the back of the van. (How much bigger is a Shurian than a Beesteng? Does Granite outmass Mira?) I'm guessing that's a movement, and a grapple action? She does get a +2 bonus to brawling, if I'm reading that correctly...
(Actually, the rack/fitting units for the rear half of the armor and helmet are still in the process of retracting, so they are partially in the way. You should be able to bash through them, though.)
(As far as mass difference, Mira, like Lirassa, is a Warrior Caste Besteeng, i.e. she's quite large. Note in the top illustration on the post that she's a little taller than the door. [Of course, a lot of that has to do with the high-platform boots she was wearing, but she's still over 6' tall.] She's also sturdily built. Odds are that she outmasses you. However, you're on your feet and moving forward, whereas she's in a seated position, so you have a leverage advantage.)
(Yes, grapple and push count as both a movement and an action. If you're going to go through with it, go ahead and roll for your grapple (your skill-modified [+2]CBT attribute - d20).)
(Oops...now that I've had a chance to actually look at the character sheets...)
Mira is more than a foot taller than Granite Spear, but Granite Spear is more than 50% heavier. MASS ADVANTAGE!!!!!
I rolled an 11 on a d20. My CBT is 12, so:
(12+2) - 11 = 3
Good enough for a hit. Now do a roll to see how strong your hold is: 15 - d20.
While you're at it, give me a d6 roll.
d20: 11 again... (sheesh)
so 15 - 11 = 4
d6: rolled a 4
(Lirassa defers her action and just keeps running.)
Ham, are you going to perform and action or change your movement status in any way?
[Oops, I forgot...]
Granite Spear drives into Mira, wrapping her tentacles around the Besteeng and carrying her along. Serenaded by a cacophany of crashing metal and whining servos, the pair plow through the now-retracting armor racks and crumple against the back of the vehicle (Mira taking all the impact).
The Besteeng grunts as somewhere around three hundred pounds of force smashes her up against the bulkhead, but she continues to eye her opponent with hateful defiance.
That's the second bad-gal who's been Shurianated.
Im not going to change my movement status until I get close to the SUV, by that time Im sure we will be able to find out more what is going on. Although Im cautious abotu exposing myself to the person that is near the vehicle I am assuming the movement earlier.
A dark figure can be seen jumping out from behind the vehicle, apparently leaping headlong onto the pavement next to it.
Impulse Three
Movement:
(Continuous movement and already stated movement options include:)
Lirassa makes it through the gate and out onto the sidewalk, Ham about five meters behind her. She's still about ten meters from the vehicle.
Nekshi arrives next to Widjgleeby, who has edged up to the back door.
Mey'Luskar leans out the front door again.
Dabid moves over to Zeton.
(Assuming there are no other movement options...)
Actions
Lirassa hits a switch on her hot comb, there is a sort of report, and a shimmering, meter-long blade appears.
At the same time, she snap-shoots with her mini stun pistol. Her shot sparkles on the pavement near the boots of the figure that has just jumped out.
(It's Granite Spear and Ham's turn. Both have enough points for movement & action or two separate actions.)
(Nekshi and Zeton will be up for a single action or movement option each.)
Widjgleeby opens the back door.
I will continue at full speed to the nose of the SUV and approach the figure from the other side of the vehicle to bracket between us.
Zeton's action is to speak. He speaks in his most polite yet assertive tone, "Dabid, please assist Mey,... Widj!"
[Being limited to five words an impulse makes communicating challenging.]
Granite will continue to hold Mira, and try to move her arms around behind her into a painful position.
(Granite Spear, STR check! Roll STR - d20.)
(Oh, and Info Geek, you don't have to worry about limiting yourself to five words per impulse! Tell me what you're going to say, and I'll figure it into the schedule!)
When the time line permits, Mon'Fargret will check on the MNey'Luskar/Dabid/Zeton consortium and help hasten our departure.
It seems Granite has good backup.
(Question: Is the yellow band around the apartment all open to the outside? Also, is it a ring around from both doors to the Farbett ladder?)
Rolled a 10 (damn, I'm getting tired of "average" rolls...)
So 15 - 10 = 5
Mira manages to pull one arm free...the one she used earlier to draw something. Now the object she is holding is clearly visible. It looks like a dagger.
It is especially easy to see now because the blade is outlined with a greenish light.
(Remember that the building looks something like this except that it is one story higher, the floors are wider, the eaves aren't quite so wide, and the rails are both higher and solid. The ground floor is a storage area and bike garage. There is a gap in the rail for the Farbett ladder. There is also an enclosed stairwell on one corner [visible in the map]. Nekshi and G.S.'s flat is on the second floor. If I get a chance, I'll draw it.)
(I'll take your last comment to mean your last action of this exchange will be going back into the flat.)
(Maybe this would be a better model, except that there are no verandas. Also, the levels of the apartment towers don't truncate quite so much.)
The figure that jumped out from behind the vehicle appears to pick something up off the pavement and roll over with it.
Impulse Four
Movement
Lirassa decelerates as she closes on her target.
Ham changes course as he heads out into the street so that he can circle around the front of the vehicle.
The figure on the pavement rolls.
Actions
Lirassa corrects the aim of her mini-pistol and fires again at point blank range. However, her target's sudden roll throws off her timing. Once again, the stun burst is spent in a burst of blue sparks on the pavement.
(Ham, you're up for a movement option or action now.)
(So is Nekshi.)
Nekshi will ask Widj what she intends to do now.
Widjy will answer Zeton "Yes?"
Noticing our new target has rolled out and essentially between us, I change course and move in. My thumb is on the sword hilt trigger.
Lirassa more or less comes to a stop.
Ham closes in as the somewhat battered-looking, black-armored figure rolls up clutching what looks like a firearm of some kind.
As he comes in close, he hits the trigger on his sword hilt. Ooooh, what a lovely blade of blue-violet flame!
Okay, now that we're at the end of the round, Before we move on, I need stamina checks from some people who have been seriously working out.
Granite Spear, roll 13 - d20.
Ham, roll 12 - d20.
Sheesh, if I could roll less than 10 once in awhile....
Anyway, I rolled a 16, so 13-16 = -3.
(Hey, did you change the comment style? It's doing it differently now.)
*IGNITION*
"7" 12-7= 5pts
[yeah .....Prettttyyyy ...and this is going to hurt ..there will be a slight burning sensation]
I didn't change the comment style. It did it by itself. (But now, on my work computer, it has gone back to the old format. What's going on???!?)
Ham is breaking quite a sweat after that run, but he's still rarin' to go.
(Granite Spear is too overcome with bloodlust to care at this point...)
Okay, people, I need speed points for Round Four, first(and hopefully last, frankly speaking) exchange
Ham, roll 1d6 + 1d3
Nekshi, roll 1d6 + 1d3
Widjgleeby, roll 1d6
Granite Spear, roll 2d6
Mon'Fargret, roll 2d6
Zeton, roll 2d6
Zeton rolls 4+2=6
5 + 2 = 7
Nekshi rolls 3+2=5
4+(5/2)=4+(3)=7
*Flambe*
(I'm still waiting for Mon'Fargret and Widjgleeby's speed points, but Granite Spear is going to go first no matter what, so...)
Granite will attack her "dagger" arm with her beak, and a claw
Beak: rolled 17: 14-17= -3
Claw: rolled 18: 14-18= -4
Guessing that's a no-go.
Granite Spear's position still holding Mira against the rear bulkhead of the vehicle made it awkward to move. The beak attack caught fabric but failed to take hold. The claw attack was a clean miss.
(You have enough points to go again this impulse.)
Widjy rolled a "6"
M'F = 6 + 1
[Go again: like another action?]
As in an action or a movement option.
Granite's got to get that arm down. She'll do another beak attack targeting Mira's arm:
Rolled 12: 14-12 = 2
In case that's good enough:
Damage = 2 + 4 + 0.5*2 = 7
As Granite Spear lunges, Mira shifts her weight and, with deft skill, quickly tosses her glowing blade, catches it again in a corrected position, and thrusts it upward to skewer the approaching beak.
In a normal situation, her move would have been deadly effective. However, being pinned against the back wall of the vehicle and slightly dazed is definitely NOT a normal situation, even for a seasoned assassin like herself. The blade only grazes Granite Spear's bony snout, just enough to leave a small, sizzling scar.
The beak continues inexorably onward. With the blade arm no longer in its path, it settles for what comes next. With a wet, slicing sound, the razor-sharp upper half of the beak enters the woman's collar...and opens her jugular.
A nice, welcome wetness begins to wash over Granite Spear's flesh in nice, regular spurts.
The blade clatters to the floor. With a sigh, the woman goes limp.
(Oh, boy...a lot of people are going to be going next...)
[In the street:]
(Ham, the figure on the pavement lunges out of her roll and brings her firearm to bear. You have one chance to act [offensively and/or defensively] before she fires. Lirassa swings her shimmering sword [a split second after you start whatever action you take], but it won't connect in time.)
[In the flat:]
Mey'Luskar starts to bolt past Mon'Fargret toward the front door.
(Everyone else is up for a single movement option or action [or simultaneous movement/action] this impulse. Mon'Fargret is next.)
Mmmmm blood. I'm guessing we won't be questioning Mira... Hopefully Ham and Lirassa have better luck with the one outside!
Zeton's action is to finish his sentence and then begin collecting his computer and all his belongs.
"...please carry me!"
Move in to strike with blade ..... as I see the battle rifle come up.
Mon'Fargret tries to get in the way of Mey, "Whoa! We've shed blood for you."
[FYI: As of Sunday afternoon (Monday morning in MM land), I will be computerless for most of the week. Info geek can act as my proxy decision maker regarding M'F.]
(Is Ham going to strike at the weapon or the person? Please specify...and roll your attack [13 - d20]!)
As Mon'Fargret moves to block Mey'Luskar, she quickly checks her pace, loses her balance, and grabs at Mon'Fargret for support.
After a brief, awkward pause, she replies softly, "I know...". Then her eyes harden and the corner of her mouth lifts into a shallow sneer. "I can't stay here!" she says haughtily.
Dabid moves to position himself in front of the door.
"Allow me, my lady," he says, bowing.
(Widjgleeby, you're up for a movement or action.)
Ham uses swift attack with his hand weapon strike - aiming for the weapon [hoping to hit the receiver chamber- center of mass], and intending to arc the blade through the weapon arm as well if possible.
plasma cutlass: rolled a "4" 13-4 =9
[using med hand weapon mod]
9+1 = 10pts for strike
(Actually, it's a gauss weapon, so the center of mass is probably the accelerator barrel, but whatever...)
(You scored a solid hit on the gun before she could pull the trigger. Roll damage!)
Damage = 29+5+5 = 39 pts
oops ... I think I broke something [Hassan chop]
(Unfortunately, plasma blades do a lot of damage but don't always penetrate real well...)
***SIZZLE***
The blade/flame cleaves the gun in twain. However, when it comes in contact with the woman's armor it seems to distort and dissipate, losing its solidity. Ham's swing follows through but has little more effect on the woman than hot smoke.
With an amusing, clicking sound, the now-impotent gauss SMG starts spitting out projectiles that just drop to the pavement.
Lirassa thrusts a bit awkwardly with her sword. It's not a very solid hit, but it lands right on the woman's helmet and pokes through it.
A sickening sort of grunt/gurgle can be heard faintly through the helmet's vents.
(Your turn, Widjgleeby...with Nekshi following immediately afterward.)
Don't forget, Zeton needs someone to carry him
(I'll assume you just said that to Widjgleeby.)
Widjy will move toward Zeton as requested.
Impulse Two
Inside the vehicle, Mira sinks to the floor with a hoarse sigh.
Outside the vehicle, the as yet nameless woman slumps onto the pavement with a hoarse sigh.
It looks like this stop-motion action sequence has finally come to an end, so we can revert to "normal" time.
But yet it's not quite over.
Granite Spear has just enough time to calm from her berserk rage when the inside of the vehicle, which was dark, suddenly becomes flooded with red light as a sort of alarm starts beeping.
The sound of servos can be heard just before the vehicle starts powering up.
Outside the vehicle, Ham and Lirassa hear the whine as drive systems come online. It's a wheeled vehicle, but it sounds more like an antigrav system.
Granite would like to exit the vehicle now. She will do so with much haste.
NEW POST TIME!!!!!!!
(Finally...after the longest one minute of game time I've ever seen...)
(Actually, it lasted about 43 seconds.)
