Justice Switches Arms

Bram vs Betham

Just then the double doors burst open with a bang, there is a clack of armored boots, and a familiar voice says, "Superintendent Br'am! Are you busy now?"

The superintendent's eyes widen and then furrow.

"What in flames are YOU doing here?" demands Constable Panith.

"Betham!" snaps the superintendent. "You gl'imm! You were ordered to patrol..."

"...to patrol the eastern side of the Park," interrupts Betham as he strides in flanked by three other armored constables. "Not that there was anything there. You have an important message, but it seems your com is down. I came here to deliver it personally."

"Right, whatever!" snaps the superintendent. "Give me the message, and be quick about it!"

"Com silence and blockers too?" asks Betham playfully as he and his team thread their way through the tables. "And the Night Guard? Is this normal procedure for our district?"

"The situation calls for special measures," replies the superintendent. "Now give me the message and get your ass back out on your bikes!"

"Very well," says Betham. He waves his team off just as they're passing by the party. He himself comes to a stop directly in front of the superintendent. Then he glances back at Par'deth and shifts a bit to the side. "There are two parts to the message. I'm guessing the first is evidence. The second part is probably instructions. I'll play 'em in that order."

"Fine!" snaps the superintendent.

Betham holds up his wrister, taps in a sequence, and then pauses as a holo display appears.

(From behind the party there is a sound of carefully shifting stools.)

"All lies!" cries Keil'i. "Lies and betrayal! How can you call yourself a representative of..."

There is a flash and crackle of a stun bolt, and Keil'i collapses to the ground, blue sparks playing about her form.

Bina lets out a verbal and psychic scream and runs to her companion's side.

"Just an unfortunate precaution," says the superintendent with a sigh. "She'll be alright. Your name is Bina, right? At least you're a local, so you should understand."

[cut]

"Extreme..." sings Wari in Her-galad (mimicking Constable Panith). "Even more extreme when controlled...not by the Temple, but still controlled! Poison in the air..."

"Shut up!" snaps Constable Panith, switching on his stun baton.

"Who pulls your strings, Constable?" sings Wari as if in a dream.

"I said shut up!" growls Panith, and he moves toward her menacingly.

"Wari, don't!" hisses Blaghl.

"Smile for the cameraaaaaas..." Wari sings, glancing around the room.

Panith hesitates, glancing around, each breath a growl of rage, then, with a most un-Hergoth howl, his control gives way, and he jabs the Bolgan violently with his baton. Her attempt to dodge is unsuccessful. There is a crackle of stun fire, and she quietly collapses.

Breathing as if on the verge of hyperventilation, Constable Panith wheels around, brandishing his baton as if half berserk, and growls, "You...will...all...obey...authority!"

An almost tangible wave of tension spreads through the club.

"And now the second part," says Betham as the holo image changes. [His other hand can be seen to move closer to his sidearm.]

"Superintendent Br'am," says the face as it fades into focus, "you, Panith, and Ter'nbath are relieved of all duties and under arrest, effective immediately!"

"TRAITORS!!!" yells Panith.

At the same time, a psychic scream like "KYAAAAAAATH" echoes through everyone's mind as Par'deth becomes a thing of fire.

(I'll be needing speed point rolls. Use the number and type of dice indicated for 1st exchange according to your SPD attribute. The table is here.)

Zeton rolls 3 and 2 for 5 points. Zeton elects to take an action. He arms himself with his telescoping baton and extends the baton for combat. (I'm not exactly sure if it's a good idea, or if I need to use swift attack to accomplish both equipping and extending, but if I don't, I think saving swift attack for the second impulse might be best.)

(Zeton and Mon'Fargret will both be able to take a single movement option or action during the first impulse, so swift attack rolls are possible for those two now. [DER attribute - d20] points. It won't effect the outcome of the beginning of the exchange, so I'll go ahead and start.)

As Par'deth begins to turn into a ball of blue fire, Superintendent Br'am lets out a bestial howl and swings at Betham with his stun baton. Betham jumps back. The swing cleaves air. Br'am backswings as Betham comes to the edge of the table near Lirassa. Once again the swing is wide.

Par'deth shoots through the air over the nearby sofa directly at Constable Panith.

Panith charges Zeton. (He'll get there before Par'deth does, so I'll pause here to wait for the swift attack roll results. Zeton has not yet grasped his baton, let alone drawn it.)

Anonymous said...

Zeton rolls a 17. Sigh... DER 14 - 17 = -3. Zeton hopes the bruise he's about the receive matches his wardrobe.

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret goes under the table to come out behind Betham. His intent is to slide behind Betham towards Bina and assist in engaging Br'am using his martial arts and disabling skills.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Zeton instinctively wheels around and makes a wild grab for his baton, loses his footing, and slips. Panith's swing whiffs through the air near his shoulder.

Par'deth's boot to the head is far more successful. He connects...hard. Panith is knocked bodily backward and over the table, which goes up on two legs and slides but doesn't fall over.

Constable Ter'nbeth quickdraws his pistol and squeezes off a wild shot at Detective Gar'en. The stun blast hits him square in the shoulder. As sparks play about him, he swoons but stays on his feet.

Br'am attempts one more swing at Betham as he presses the attack. Using the table behind him for leverage, Betham parries by kicking at Br'am's arm. The tip of the baton skim's Betham's armor and kicks off a stun pulse. Betham grunts but otherwise seems unaffected.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Ter'nbath wheels around and fires a snap shot at Bina. The stun blast expends itself on the far wall.

Yellow Yangae A brings his carbine back up to firing position drawing a bead on Widjgleeby.

Lirassa jumps backward (jostling Ham slightly) and comes to a crouch behind her stool.

Blaghl moves forward to shield Bina.

Detective 1 charges Ter'nbath.

Patrolman 2 moves to shield Detective Gar'en.

Yellow Yangae C takes a few steps backward while raising his carbine.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Mon'Fargret dives under the table, and when he does he is shocked to see his pistol lying on the floor there.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Impulse Two)-

Par'deth does an acrobatic flip over the table in pursuit of Panith.

Yellow Yangae A opens fire on Widjgleeby. (Widjgleeby can take a "sudden movement" defensive option. I'll wait for your reply.)

Blaghl comes to a halt in front of Bina and shields her.

Br'am swings again. Betham is unable to move very far, but the blow hits the table...and takes a piece out of it before jolting it with a stun pulse.

Lirassa mutters something in Brekka and dives for something under the table near her position.

In a single, fluid movement, Par'deth seizes Panith and, with a flash of blue in his eyes, throws him like a rag doll against the wall (of the men's restroom near the corner). He hits with a painful-sounding thump and crunch and falls heavily in front of Constable B-2.

Detective 1 tries to body-slam Ter'nbeth but hits obliquely, more or less bouncing off. Ter'nbeth ignores the attack completely, firing a snap shot at Blaghl. It's a solid hit square in the Bolgan's chest. Blaghl growls and charges.

Yellow Yangae D raises his carbine.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Zeton can take a single movement option or action.)

Anonymous said...

[Wow, we need miniatures to keep track of who's who and where everybody is!]

Zeton's movement is to crouch down next to the table to make his profile lower to, (mainly), Yangae group A-E in blue.

[Also, I'm not clear if Constable B-1 & B-2 have blue dots on their helmets or not, but I guess during the melee it would be hard to determine that...]

Anonymous said...

[Betham definitely has some NADS. You have to admit that.]

[Even though M'F has no action...]

With the pistol in hand, Ter'nbeth becomes the next target for M'F who stays on the ground to shoot.

Anonymous said...

[I believe B1 and B-2 are part of Betham's force]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Constable B-1 and B-2 are with Betham. ["B" for "Betham".])

(There is also a B-3 I neglected to include, but he's back near the main entrance.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Detective 2 starts to run in the direction of Br'am and Betham.

(I think I'm going to assert my gamemasterness to keep things rolling here...)

Widjgleeby dodges a bit to the side, and Yellow Yangae A's short burst narrowly misses to the right, hitting the table where Mon'Fargret was sitting.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Impulse Three)-

(Mon'Fargret can use his swift attack skill to try to boost his points if you like. I'll wait for it.)

Anonymous said...

And he will. Ter'nbath if there is a free shot, otherwise Br'am (Sto'ker).

Anonymous said...

If Ter'nbath, he shoots for the kill (depending on the armor design, might be neck, groin, etc.).

If Br'am (Sto'ker), he aims at the upper stunner arm.

ElTigrez said...

Ham also dives under the nearest available table, rolls under and asseses the situation from this point of view.

As he is pulling out the concealed weapons.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I was going to say, "Are you sure you want me to roll MF's swift attack, but I think you'll want to keep my result...)

(Mon'Fargret has enough points this exchange for two movement/actions, so I'll assume careful aim and shoot. Unfortunately, since he's shooting from under the table with legs moving right in front of him, the field of fire is a bit limited. Blaghl is also charging Ter'nbath. I'll assume MF draws a bead on Ter'nbath's groin.)
(MF is still up for an action after the aim, so go ahead and roll for the shot.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Yellow Yangae A suddenly switches his bead and snapshoots at Detective Gar'en. The burst ionizes its way through the air and sparkles on the stool Lirassa is crouched behind.

Br'am pulls his baton free and attempts another wild swing. This time Betham is unable to roll out of the way. Br'am scores a solid hit on his left leg. There is a teeth-gritting *crunch* followed by the sizzle of the stun pulse. Betham makes a sound like, "Urk!"

Pru ducks behind her stool.

Ham does what ElTigrez said.

Bina ducks back into the space between the sofa and the table.

Blaghl will follow through with his attack on Ter'nbath (which will happen the instant after MF's shot, so I'll wait for that roll).

Constables B-1 and B-2 start threading their way toward Betham.

Now between Det. Gar'en and the Yellow Yangae group, Patrolman 2 draws his sidearm.

Widjgleeby can take an action or movement option now. I need to know what it is before we can continue.

@Philippa:
With a bit of a forward lunge, Widjgleeby can punch both Yellow Yangae B and D. (C is backing up.) Go for it?

Anonymous said...

I would have to say that it is pulse since the last shot M'F took was pulse and he didn't really have time to fiddle with the pistol.

[At some point you will have to divulge the extraordinary luck which placed that there.]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I think I'll go ahead and go with Philippa's last comment and assume Widjgleeby is going to punch both. At any rate, Yellow Yangae C, who is out of punch range, is going to open up on Widjgleeby with his carbine.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

There is a flash and shower of (NOT stun) sparks approximately where Ter'nbath's navel should be. He staggers ever so slightly before Blaghl launches into him, but he's still able to grab the Bolgan by one of his arms and flip him. Blaghl skilfully rolls out of it.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I hope you don't mind, Philippa...)
Widjgleeby throws four (two by two) powerful but ponderous punches at the same time:

The salvo directed at Yellow Yangae B misses with one and connects with the other right in the middle of his faceplate, which buckles like tinfoil. He takes a nasty tumble.

As for the blows aimed at Y.Y. D, the one with the middle arm overcomes his dodge attempt and hits him (her, actually) just above the knee. There's an ugly crack, but she stays on her feet.

As for the other blow, Widjgleeby swings her upper right arm around, haymaker style, and feels an impact MUCH too early...

Constable B-1 grunts as he's sent flying...straight into Yellow Yangae D, who is unable to do anything about it. Constable B-1 lands right on top of her, sending both into a pile.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Yellow Yangae C opens up on Widjgleeby with a long burst from his carbine. Four sparkly blasts smack into the giant reptile's belly. With a roar and a complicated thump, Widjgleeby collapses forward.

At the same time, Blue Yangae A snapshoots a short burst across at Yellow Yangae A. Both pulses hit. Y.Y. A becomes a cool-looking light show as he falls.

Blue Yangae D snapshoots at Br'am. It's a clean miss.

The Moody Minstrel said...

As we come to the end of the impulse, Zeton is up for a movement or action.

Lirassa raises up to what looks like a firing position, and it looks like she's holding her mini-stunner (which everyone recalls her having dropped downstairs in the teleporter room...together with MF's pistol...).

Par'deth performs a ridiculous, gravity-defying acrobatic leap toward the Yellow Yangae group.

Detective 2, who is coming up behind Br'am, carefully levels his sidearm on the former superintendent.

Impulse FourMon'Fargret is up for an action or movement.

Dabid moves to join Zeton in helping Widjgleeby, who is still in the process of collapsing. (Actually, she was hit with stun bursts and doesn't appear to be injured.)

Constable B-2 quickdraws his sidearm and attempts to squeeze off a snap shot at Br'am. Unfortunately, he trips over the edge of the sofa. His shot hits one of the stage lights, which shatters in a spectacular display. He manages to roll out of the fall.

Detective 1 turns to engage Ter'nbath again.

Br'am wheels around to confront Patrolman 2.

Anonymous said...

With Ter'nbeth grappling for now, Mon'Fargret's options change...

1st choice: If there is a clean shot at Br'am, he goes again for the most vulnerable point (head, neck, or groin depending armor placement.

2nd choice: If Br'am is blocked, then he looks for a shot that won't harm Blaghl (90%+ probability) on Ter'nbeth and takes it if it is available even if it is a less vulnerable spot.

[What are all those Blue Yangae doing anyway?]

Blue Yangae C snap shoots across at one of the Yellow Yangae team (probably Y.Y. C). It's a clean miss.

Blue Yangae E takes aim at Br'am.

Blue Yangae B snap shoots at Br'am. The stun burst splashes on his side as he spins. He jerks a bit but otherwise seems unaffected.

Anonymous said...

M'F will switch to full beam and aim for the dominant leg (the one Br'am is leaning on more) about 6 inches below the butt. He will fire first in a 1.5 second burst.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Switching to full beam will eat up your remaining speed points. We're pretty much at the end of the exchange anyway.

Impulse Five-
Movement options started before come to their conclusion. Par'deth lands in the middle of the Yellow Yangae group, sword in hand. Br'am is now facing Detective 2 and poised to strike. Panith stops bouncing. Widjgleeby finishes collapsing. Others arrive at their predetermined target locations. The only other one with a usable speed point left is Pru, and she forfeits.

With an inhuman (inhergoth, anyway) howl, Br'am aims one last, desperate swing at Detective 2, who tries to leap back out of the way. The baton just grazes the detective's uniform, sparing him what probably would have been a rib-shattering blow. The stun unit is triggered, but most of the energy is lost. The detective only winces. In the next instant, Br'an's right leg splits in a mass of flame and sparks like a tree felled by lightning.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(While I'm waiting for Ham's action or movement...)

Ter'nbath takes an aim-and-shoot action with his pistol at Detective 1, who dances (a bit clumsily) to avoid it...in vain. The stun blast catches him square in the chest.

Seeing no obvious wounds on Widjgleeby, Dabid takes cover behind her.

Blue Yangae B follows through with a second shot at Br'am, hitting him square in the back. The stun blast light show on his armor makes an interesting complement to his exploding leg.

Lirassa aims her mini-stunner at Ter'nbath.

Blue Yangae A squeezes off another short burst at Yellow Yangae A. This time both blasts miss as Y.Y. A stumbles.

Blue Yangae B quickly switches aim and snap shoots at Y.Y. D. The shot goes over Y.Y. D's head but hits Y.Y. B instead. His dented helmet lights up like a holiday ornament.

Picking herself off the floor, Y.Y. D starts to draw something from her belt.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Zeton is also up for a single movement option or action.)

Pru looks behind her at the source of the "plop" and says, "What in sparks..."

Blaghl jumps to his feet to confront Ter'nbath again.

(No one else can take an action this impulse. I'll wait for Ham and Zeton.)

Okay, Ham is now emerging out from under his table cover while drawing his cutlass.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Two-

Br'am falls (more like collapses). So does Yellow Yangae B.

(Is Mon'Fargret going to continue to sustain fire or cease?)

Ham moves between Detective 1 and Blaghl to close the distance to Ter'nbath. [Action?]

Constable B-1 jumps to his feet backward, putting a little space between himself and Y.Y. D. As he does so, he readies his sidearm.

The barstool to the right of the table to Widjgleeby's right in the picture suddenly falls forcefully, bouncing more or less in the direction of the Blue Yangae group.

(Zeton is up for a movement/action.)

Par'deth initiates a flying kick against Y.Y. C, whose feeble attempt at a martial arts defense move is slow, awkward, and foolish. The kick lands square in the gut. There is a symphony of violently expelled breath, splitting armor, and snapping bones ending in a coda of crashes as he makes intimate contact with the pair of tables behind him.

Detective 1 lets out a shriek and jumps toward Ter'nbath

I don't think El Tigrez is ahead of himself yet. He was most of the way to Ter'nbath when he was going after Br'am. Now he is altering course (We didn't have your latest pic when Ham made his action, so he wouldn't know exactly where he had been placed.)

Now if ElTigrez had said attack with the cutlass, then that would have been ahead of the game, but he said he will go for the hand thus telegraphing moves ahead as we all have been doing.

The next impulse or two should bring some hot Ibitonian on Yangae action I am thinking.

Patrolman 2, who already has his pistol leveled, does an aim-and-shoot at Y.Y. A. Y.Y. A, who is still disoriented from his last stun hit, doesn't succeed in dodging. The shot catches him in the hip and splashes around his form.

Detective 2 steps forward to catch Br'am and ease him to the floor.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I'll pause for Ham's dodge roll before starting the next impulse.)

ElTigrez said...

Ham rolls a "3" so with a base CBT of 12 that would 9 pts

However could I incorporate my brawling skill with the dodge which would an additional +3 to make it 12 pts?

[He keeps this up and he is going to lose something more than a trigger finger]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(With a roll like that, Ter'nbath's attempt at tripping Ham just made him look foolish.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Three-
Yellow Yangae A falls to the floor.

Lirassa rises from behind her cover.

Ham can take an action or movement option.

Blaghl grabs for Ter'nbath's legs. He is not successful.

Constable B-1 shoots his sidearm at Y.Y. D. A solid hit. Stun fields play about her armor.

Patrolman 1 finally gets over his confusion and starts to hurry over to where his teammates are dealing with Br'am.

When the stun fields sparkling and buzzing around Detective 1 stop, he screams and jumps at Ter'nbath. Unfortunately, Ham is in his way. The Hergoth doesn't even sway the much-larger Ibitonian.

Blue Yangae A switches his aim to Y.Y. D.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Mon'Fargret is up for an action or movement option.

Pru finishes putting on her bandelero.

Lirassa takes very careful aim at Ter'nbath with her mini-stunner.

Constable Betham, obviously still reeling, moves a few steps in Ter'nbath's direction.

Constable B-2 turns around to check out Panith.

Detective Gar'en checks out Br'am.

Blue Yangae B & C both shoot at Y.Y. D. B hits. C hits the table.

Blue Yangae D & E start to move to the table next to Widjgleeby.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I'll pause again to wait for Ham and Mon'Fargret.)

Anonymous said...

[Combining comments and clarifying a bit]

Mon'Fargret lowers his pistol and emerges from the table. He is moving to assist Br'am with his injury while looking around for remaining threats.

[From what I've read, it looks like Ter'nbath is still up. How about YYA and YYD?]

The Moody Minstrel said...

[Both of them have just been hit. You'll find out the results next impulse.]

ElTigrez said...

I try to reverse the dodge maneuver and catch Terni's leg and trip him up and over so he falls on his back? - rolled a "13" on CBT (normally 12) now can I combine swift attack with my brawling skill of +3 or would that work at all?

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Rolling against swift attack here would only potentially reduce the speed point cost of the action. The brawling skill modifier applies, however.)

Ham tries to reverse the kicking attack, but Ter'nbath lithely avoids it.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Four-

Yellow Yangae A & D both fall to the floor.

Mon'Fargret joins the small group clustering around Br'am.

Dabid carefully emerges from behind Widjgleeby and approaches the four fallen Yellow Yangae, saying, "That's all of them!"

Bina is still holding Keil'i's head and chanting quietly.

Par'deth is summoning his power, apparently to treat Y.Y. C.

Patrolman 1 also joins the group surrounding Br'am.

Ter'nbath takes a poke at Ham with his off hand. (Is Ham going to dodge or block it?)

ElTigrez said...

dodges it (10 with a CBT 15 on brawl, and then rolls an 8 for same CBT to take out his leg again to trip to knock him flat)

Growls out "Cease ..or you may lose something for real next" (thru translator)

ElTigrez said...

(anyway that would be my future actions if it goes that way....Terni is starting to annoy me)

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Ham doesn't have enough points left to counterattack right now. As it is, the dodge will put him into deficit. I'll take that to be Ham's action in the next exchange.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Five-

Lirassa finds an opening and takes a shot with her mini-stunner at Ter'nbath. It's close enough to make Ham's shoulder tingle, but both pulses find their way to the target. His armor absorbs most of it, but he seems to reel.

Nothing else happens except the overlap from last impulse.

End of the Round-

Ter'nbath is the only combatant still on his feet. However, all this weirdness clearly has taken a toll on the wits of some.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Just in case, I'll need 1st exchange speed point rolls for everyone participating in the action.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse One-
Despite his obviously dire condition, Br'am opens his eyes.

His eyes don't look quite right.

"GAVAM!" screams Detective 1 as he kicks Br'am's head.

There is a scream in 2-part harmony. Patrolman 1 turns around and bolts toward the door next to the stage, while Blue Yangae E sprints toward the main entrance.

(I'll wait here for speed point rolls for the player characters.)

Mr. Happy Roll is on vacation - Mon'Fargret has 3 speed points fro Exchange 1

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Makes sense, actually. It's not like MF expected anything like this to happen.)

Phillipa Scratch said...

If I'm supposed to roll speed points I rolled a "4" otherwise, my next action will be to stand up! thank you.

Anonymous said...

[Oh, mighty Asus! Do we know what Gavam! means?]

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Philippa - Widjgleeby is still out cold.)

(Gavam is a Her-galad derogatory term roughly equivalent in usage/tone to English "asshole, bastard, etc." but it literally means "corrupted soul".)

1st exchange: 1 + 4 = 5
2nd exchange: 1 + 3 = 4

Yeah... I think I'm changing dice when I roll next time.

ElTigrez said...

1st exchange: 5+2=7 (d6+d3)
2nd exchange: 1+3=4 (d6+d6)

The Moody Minstrel said...

Detective 2 kicks at Br'am's head again, but this time his maddened strike glances off the ex-superintendent's helmet.

Detective 1 swings around Ham and aims a punch at Ter'nbath. The ex-constable is still reeling, and his attempt at defense is put to shame. However, thanks to his armor, the blow does little except knock him off balance.

With a scream, Blue Yangae B pivots around to face in the direction of Mek and Dusker.

Despite his vacant, glassy-eyed look, Br'am succeeds in grabbing Detective 2's foot.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Blue Yangae B screams "It's HIM!!!" and cuts loose with his carbine on Mek. It's a wild, uncontrolled long burst that winds up setting off a colorful light show on the floor.

Constable B-1 is moving to put cuffs on Yellow Yangae D.

"Cease fire!" screams Blue Yangae A to B.

(Ham's turn.)

ElTigrez said...

Ham sweeps his foot out taking advantage of the Terni's off balance predicament, trying to bring him crashing on his back to the floor (nicely). After completing the dodge of course .

as stated before - rolled and "8" with a CBT 15 - 7 pts. for the foot sweep.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Ter'nbath tries to dodge but is not successful. His feet go out from under him.

Detective 1 immediately jumps at him with intent to tackle. He fails to secure a hold.

Detective 2 tries to yank his foot out of Br'am's grasp and is successful.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Dabid begins to move toward Blue Yangae A & B.

Lirassa moves closer to Ham, carefully aiming her mini-stunner.

Zeton notices that a carbine belonging to one of the stunned Yellow Yangae suddenly disappears. No one else does.

Par'deth is still caught up in his healing.

Crying for help, Detective Gar'en moves to restrain Br'am.

Blue Yangae D starts to head toward the stunned Yellow Yangae group, where Constable B-1 is.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Two-

Patrolman 1 arrives at the door next to the stage and very nearly bashes his way through it. (Luckily it opens well enough.)

Blue Yangae E similarly tears past Constable B-3 and plows through the main entrance.

Br'am lunges at Detective Gar'en. His movements are unnaturally stiff and awkward, so he is easily avoided.

Detective 2 draws his sidearm.

Ignoring B.B. A's command to ceasefire, B.B. B walks his sustained fire into Mek...and suddenly lets out a hideous shriek just as a pulse hits Mek in the face. Scarcely a heartbeat later B.B. A says, "Damn it, I said..." and grabs B.B. B.

Constable B-1 drops the cuffs he was readying and moves toward Mek.

(It's Zeton's turn.)

Anonymous said...

Zeton will take a movement action and follow Constable B-1. [Zeton hopes to learn if Mek is somehow channeling an energy, or spirit, or whatever, which is affecting some of the people and if so, to help stop it.]

The Moody Minstrel said...

"The guards!" cries Dusker.

Hopping over Widjgleeby's tail, Dabid arrives at the table next to Blue Yangae A&B.

Sighing with irritation, Lirassa continues trying to draw a bead on Ter'nbath.

Bina pauses for a breath, but it doesn't look like she's going to stop chanting over Keil'i.

Ter'nbath lands on the floor with a thunk and rolls out of it. Blaghl immediately goes for a bear-hug grapple.

Betham tries to move to do something similar to Br'am, but there are too many bodies in the way. "Grab him!" he shouts.

Patrolman 2, who still has his sidearm in hand, immediately snapshoots at Mek. The pulse sparkles among the bottles behind the bar.

Blue Yangae D changes course to come up behind Zeton and Constable B-1.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Three-

All at once Br'am simply goes limp and collapses as if he were switched off.

(All the player characters here except Widjgleeby are up for a movement option or action. No one has used swift attack skill yet, so that is possible if necessary.)

Anonymous said...

Zeton's action is to ask Constable B-1 if he understand what is happening.

Anonymous said...

Mon'Fargret is going mental...check your email Mr. GM.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Blue Yangae B collapses limply into Blue Yangae A's arms as the latter says, "What the..."

While Zeton is speaking, Constable B-1 quickdraws (or tries to, anyway) his stun baton. He's still has initiative, so, screaming, "It's HIM," he jabs at Mek with the baton.

Pru emerges from under the table and comes alongside Mon'Fargret (who is raising his pistol) saying, "My lord!" Her ring is flashing in a way not seen before.

Par'deth turns and faces Mek, blue soul force growing around him.

Constable B-2 quickly slaps cuffs on Panith.

Detective 1 starts grabbing for Ter'nbath's stun baton, succeeding mainly in irritating Blaghl.

Blue Yangae C moves to B.B. B's position.

Blue Yangae D shoots at Mek, hitting him more or less under Constable B-1's arm. The stun fields playing around Mek grow even bigger.

Ter'nbath tries to throw off Blaghl. He is not successful. The growling, bear-like mammal remains clamped on him like a vice.

"They have a contingency!" cries Dusker.

(Ham?)

The Moody Minstrel said...

As the stun fields blossom about him and he convulses under the myriad jolts to his system, Mek glares in a way that is not so much baleful as malevolently inhuman.

ElTigrez said...

If I have the opening .. I will kick Terni in the head or stomp down on his visor. Without irritating our bearlike ally.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Roll for it. (Brawling skill.)
(You also have the option of rolling against swift attack to reduce the speed point cost since you haven't done that yet this exchange.)

Anonymous said...

[More with the email...not sure how long these things take, so it may not be in this impulse.]

The Moody Minstrel said...

Anyway, Ham delivers a very solid kick to Ter'nbath's head.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Dabid circles around the table and helps B.B. A ease B.B. B down to the floor.

Lirassa gives up trying to shoot and just hangs tight.

Constable Betham pauses, confused by Br'am's sudden loss of consciousness.

Detective Gar'en grabs his scanner.

With a scream, Detective 2 cuts loose with his pistol. The first long burst he fires is totally wild. One pulse grazes Mon'Fargret's leg close enough to make it tingle. Another hits Betham's leg.

Blue Yangae D moves closer to Mek.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Four-

Mon'Fargret yells, "Dusker, what is it?"

Mek goes limp, flopping out of his chair onto the floor.

Par'deth eases off his power.

Betham clenches his fist and growls. (As he does so, he pumps off a psychic pulse.)

Constable B-1 comes to a stop astride Mek.

From somewhere near Par'deth there is the sound of a gauss pistol being fired.

Pru draws one of the disks she has on her bandelero.

Blue Yangae C steps forward to help with B.B. B.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Detective 2 walks his sustained fire into Br'am as the latter collapses to the floor. Then his pistol suddenly shatters.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Five-

"Tell us!" continues Mon'Fargret.

(Still waiting for Ham's swift attack roll result.)

Patrolman 2 wheels around and levels his sidearm on Detective 2, who suddenly looks both very frightened and very stupid as he holds his stump of a pistol.

Bina suddenly utters a cry of delight.

Anonymous said...

[I want to say it...]

"Tell us!" continues Mon'Fargret.

[Ah, that's better.]

The Moody Minstrel said...

Patrolman 2 lowers his sidearm again.

Par'deth turns his attention toward the struggle going on around Ter'nbath.

Lirassa huffs irritably.

(Everyone else is out of speed points. I'll engage gamemaster override and take care of Ham's swift attack roll. He's able to make one more attack this impulse. Roll it!)

ElTigrez said...

rolls a "10" on his DER 14 with swift attack so 4 points I believe.

Is Terni still being an annoyance to us all? (Still more of a recipient of Ibitonian tough love?)

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Funny...that's what I rolled!)

For his final action of the exchange, Ham drops and grabs for Ter'nbath's neck area. (He is wearing a full helmet, and while it isn't directly connected to the body armor, there is a neck reinforcer. It'll have to be removed for a choke hold or anything like that to be attempted. Shall I assume that Ham is going to try to remove his helmet?)

ElTigrez said...

Ham is going to open his visor as well as yell for Lirassa to come over (with her stunner) I will try to control him (with our ally on him I suppose) even if I need to hell hand straight on the chin as a blow.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Second Exchange-
(I already have second exchange speed point rolls for all the active player characters except Mon'Fargret, but he's not currently participating in the action, so I'll go with it as is.)

First Impulse-
Once again, Par'deth shimmers blue and performs a gravity-defying acrobatic leap (a la a Chinese martial arts flick), landing next to Ter'nbath. He then appears to scrutinize Ter'nbath very briefly.

As Blaghl wrestles with Ter'nbath and Ham tries to pry his visor open, Detective 2 tries to kick him (Ter'nbath), most likely in the crotch. Unfortunately, his boot buckle catches on his other pantleg, and he takes a rather humiliating spill.

Par'deth's eyes flash blue, and a device attached to Ter'nbath's helmet sends out a shower of sparks.

Ter'nbath grunts and struggles but can't break free of Blaghl's grip.

Lirassa approaches closer.

Bina stands and starts to approach, too.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Meanwhile, outside the action...

Constable Betham opens his visor, glares at Detective 2, points at the spot on his leg where the stun pulse hit, and says, "What in flames are you trying to do, you hopeless lump of month-old kehlwok?"

Constable B-1 activates his wrist scanner and starts to check out Mek.

Patrolman 2 crouches down next to Br'am and readies his cuffs.

Detective Gar'en sweeps around with his scanner and mutters, "Oh, flames..."

"You see it?" says Dusker.

In the meantime, the Blue Yangae start setting to work cuffing the Yellow Yangae while Dabid has a look at B.B. B.

Pru starts pointing around with her ring while eying it thoughtfully.

Constable B-3 trots over to the main entrance and hesitates as if listening.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Two-
Par'deth starts to shimmer blue as he glares at Ter'nbath very intently.

Bina starts to raise her hands as if to do something, but Par'deth says a curt, "No!"

Ter'nbath's visor is now open. Ham is up for an action.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(I guess this is simultaneous, so...)

Ter'nbath's face is quivering oddly, and his eyes don't look right somehow. With his gaze fixed firmly on Blaghl, he opens his eyes very wide.

Anonymous said...

i rolled snake eyes for M'Fs speed.

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Going with ElTigrez's earlier comment...)

Ham calls for Lirassa while popping Ter'nbath one on the chin.

Lirassa steps closer and points her mini-stunner point blank at Ter'nbath's face.

"DO IT!" snarls Blaghl.

Par'deth continues to shimmer and glare.

"What should I do?" asks Bina helplessly.

Swearing to himself, Detective 2 picks himself off the floor.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Three-
Par'deth grits his teeth.

(No one else has enough points to go this impulse.)

Impulse Four
Par'deth lets out a sharp cry and jumps back.

Ham leans back.

Lirassa shoots a long burst right into Ter'nbath's face. The stun field is contained within his stun-resistant armor for the most part, but a tiny bit sparkles through. Blaghl grunts and bares his teeth, but his consciousness and his grip remain rock solid.

Detective 1 takes a deep breath and looks at his hands, which are shaking.

The Moody Minstrel said...

Impulse Five-

"It's out!" cries Bina, jumping into a crouch next to Ter'nbath's head.

Ter'nbath's face no longer looks contorted. With the exception of a bleeding lower lip, he looks quite peaceful.

"It's out," echoes Par'deth, breathing deeply. "It'll be back. It'll find a way."

(Thus ends the current battle.)

The Moody Minstrel said...

(Let's go to a new post.)
